Edmund’s Oast Exchange, 1081 Morrison Drive, Charleston, SC
Friday, December 27, 2019, 5:30 – 7:30pm

“On Friday we offer $10 glasses of Champagne alongside complimentary live jazz from 5:30 to 7:30. This week we will be featuring Chartogne-Taillet St. Anne. Alexandre Chartogne comes from a longtime Champagne producing family, but he set out to find his own way at an early age seeking an apprentice with the iconic Anslem Selosse (also in Champagne). Alexandre calls Anslem his “wine father” and came back home motivated to convert to sustainable agriculture and to make Champagnes that his express his sites’ terroir.

His importer Terry Theise describes Alexandre in these words: “I wasn’t surprised when Alexandre assumed the estate, and I wasn’t surprised that he was ambitious. What did surprise me, and continues to surprise me, is that he is the most passionately curious vigneron I know, not only in Champagne, but just maybe anywhere. He is pursuing something that doesn’t take the form of accolades though these will surely come—and hardly even asks for answers. It’s a quest for a kind of immersion, an unquenchable desire to experience.” Come taste this drive and ambition!”
