“Charleston Jazz will host its 4th Annual Jazz Day For Kids on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the Gaillard Center from 11-11:45am. Each year, Charleston Jazz invites students from elementary and middle schools from all over the Charleston area to enjoy a FREE performance by the Charleston Jazz Orchestra. Jazz Day for Kids is designed for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. The students will enjoy a BIG BAND concert produced especially for little ones by the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, led by Music Director, Robert Lewis. This year’s Jazz Day for Kids will feature special guest vocalist Zandrina Dunning.
The Charleston Jazz Orchestra will perform tunes from popular children’s movies and TV shows including the Lion King (Can You Feel the Love Tonight) and the Muppet Show Theme, along with some jazz standards such as Corner Pocket, Tuxedo Junction and Watermelon Man. With the holidays just around the corner, the kids will be able to sing-a-long to a jazzy Jingle Bells.
“We are very excited for this year’s Jazz Day for Kids! Along with attending a live performance by the Charleston Jazz Orchestra and our special guest vocalist, Zandrina Dunning, students will also learn about different instruments, improvisation, and various styles of jazz music. The students’ energy and enthusiasm continue to make this day a rewarding and uplifting experience each year! Thank you to our amazing school teachers and administrators for supporting Jazz Day for Kids!”
