Middleton Place

“Spend the holiday at the home of a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Readings of the Declaration and interactive demonstrations will take place throughout the day.

The 4th of July is a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration and a wide variety of activities will be presented to mark this special day.   A series of first person presentations will tell the diverse experiences of the people involved and affected by the signing of the Declaration of the Independence.  Programs on military life and the history of the U.S. Flag foster not only a better understanding of the Revolutionary period, but will serve as a civics lesson on American history and flag etiquette.  Refreshments, games, and crafts will be available all day.

Programs will include:

First person presentations

Revolutionary Soldier Display Table and Presentation

Colonial Games
Children of all ages can try their hand at such period games as rolling a hoop, walking on stilts, or playing a game of graces or quoits.

Sewing Bee
A group of seamstresses and other textile workers will be assembling pieces of both period and military clothing and other textiles.

U.S. Flag History and Etiquette

Refreshments and Crafts Tent

Independence Day programming is included with general admission to Middleton Place (free for Foundation members).”
