“Bread + Butter is excited to announce an Ice Cream Social at Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company on September 14, 2019 to kick off its programming for the 2019-2020 school year. The event will feature ice cream from 5 local chefs, a waterslide for kids and adults alike to enjoy, and a dunking booth with several of Charleston’s favorites from the food and beverage community.

Bread + Butter is a nonprofit committed to training and placement within the Charleston hospitality industry. The organization brings chefs into existing culinary training programs to teach a hands on lesson and to recruit students who are interested in gaining experience within the industry. Currently, Bread + Butter works with culinary training programs at Burke High School, West Ashley High School, One80 Place, and Kids on Point. This year, programming is expanding to include programs at James Island Charter High School and St. John’s High School.

The Ice Cream Social will take place from 3-6pm at Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company (1505 King Street Ext., Charleston, SC, 29405) and feature ice creams from BeardCat’s Sweet Shop, Cirsea Ice Cream, Edmund’s Oast Restaurant, Life. Raft. Treats., Mrs. Rose’s Fine Food & Cocktails, and the West Ashley High School Culinary Arts program. Tickets will be available at the events for guests to sample ice creams. Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company will serve a special ice cream inspired cocktail featuring Cathead Vodka with proceeds benefiting Bread + Butter.

Activities will be plentiful for kids and adults alike. A dunking booth will feature several of Charleston’s F&B favorites including John Lewis of Lewis Barbecue, Alex Lira of Estadio, Edward Crouse of Babas, Xan McLaughlin of The Park Cafe, Jennifer Bresnehan of HUSK Restaurant, and more! A giant waterslide, sponsored by We Love Moving, will also be available for kids and adults to enjoy. Proceeds from these activities will directly benefit Bread + Butter programming.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a new or used cookbook for Bread + Butter students to utilize. Tickets for ice cream and activities range from $3-$5. Admission to the event is free.
Bread + Butter looks forward to making this an annual event to kick off its school year programming. ”
