The AfroSouth Film Festival highlights the contributions and inclusions of the African Diaspora on Southern Culture through the art of filmmaking. Through a cultural homecoming celebration and Industry education, those engaged will enjoy heighten awareness, deeper field connectivity, and acknowledge all to promote, protect, and honor the historically silenced and disenfranchised contributors within the filmmaking industry with diverse cultural relationships as the dominator.
The site of the AfroSouth Film Festival is the historic city of Charleston, SC. Known for its rich history, well-preserved architecture, distinguished restaurants, and hospitable people, Charleston is a popular tourist destination. Historians estimate that “nearly half of all Africans brought to America arrived in Charleston”, most at Gadsden’s Wharf. This makes Charleston ground zero for the infusion of African culture into the very fiber of American culture.
