Summerville-Dorchester Museum, 100 E Doty Ave, Summerville, SC
Wednesday, August 14, 2019, 6:30 – 8pm

“Summerville was strategically located to support military operation around Charleston during the Civil War. Its reputation as a healthy place and the convenience of the railroad led Confederate authorities to form regiments and to build two large hospitals in the area. Dozens of ladies volunteered to work in the hospitals, and hundreds of federal POWs (who preferred soldiering to the miseries of prison) formed a Confederate combat battalion here as well. Come learn more about these people and their lives at the museum this Thursday. $5 per person. Refreshments will be served.”
