“Join The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign and Conservation Voters of South Carolina on November 18th from 6:30pm – 7.30pm at the Charleston County Main Library for a screening of ‘The Refuge,’ an intimate look at the decades-long struggle of the Gwich’in Nation to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas drilling. Following the screening, local experts, stakeholders, and community members will discuss  what is at stake when we consider drilling for oil and gas in the Arctic Refuge, strategize how to oppose oil and gas drilling in the Arctic Refuge, and take action through targeted social media pressure and petition sign-ons.

Who: Dr. Annette Watson, Director of the Masters of Environmental and Sustainability Studies Program and Associate Professor of Political Science at the College of Charleston

The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign will describe  the correlation between  local environmental efforts and  standing with the Gwich’in Nation to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas drilling. There will also be opportunities to take action : no distance is too far when opposing oil and gas drilling in our wildernesses!”
